GAM Esports vs Rogue (Group C)

With Malrang on Jarvan, there was no surprise about Rogue starting the game with not only the first blood, but with three kills in the first four minutes thanks to his aggressive ganking. This early game control coupled with both first objectives snowballed into a 40-plus cs lead in the bot lane and a ten minute first tower for Rogue, along with a 2.5k gold lead. Both RGE and the game slowed down a little during the mid game as GAM stopped contesting the map to sit back, farm and scale which gave RGE a free Soul point. With their lead stagnant, RGE seemed a little unsure and decided to coinflip a Baron but Levi managed to steal it and even the gold lead. Still, RGE found a great pick just before the drake and secured the Hextech Soul for themselves. The second Baron attempt for RGE went much better with the Soul on their side. This time they got a clean ace after the objective which just ended the game.

  • Teams: GAM 0 – 1 RGE
  • Time: 37:33
  • Kills: 6 – 14
  • Turrets: 4 – 7
  • Gold: 62.7k – 70k
  • Dragons: 2 – 4
  • Barons: 1 – 1

100 Thieves vs Gen.G (Group D)

Game 2 of the day has been one of the slower ones in the event in terms of kills as we’ve only seen three kills in the first 18 minutes. When it came to the teams’ game plans, the map seemed to be split into two. 100T was focused on the top side and was trying to give Ssumday a lead, while GEN was leaning bot side to get Ruler ahead. Both teams were successful in their game plan, but GEN’s bot side focus lead to them getting a big drake advantage. 100T only started to contest with the third one, but after Peanut stole the objective, GEN was on a fast Soul point and then another fight win gave them a sub-25 minute Mountain Soul. After a pick on Abbedagge, GEN also secured a Baron which allowed them to siege mid. 100T tried to fight with a flank from Huni, but GEN was so ahead it was a losing battle and the LCK first seed got their first win of Worlds 2022.

  • Teams: 100T 0 – 1 GEN
  • Time: 29:24
  • Kills: 8 – 17
  • Turrets: 1 – 9
  • Gold: 45.7k – 56.5k
  • Dragons: 0 – 4
  • Barons: 0 – 1

EDward Gaming vs Fnatic (Group A)

A late invade on the red buff jungle from FNC turned disastrous as EDG responded quickly and FNC ended up giving two kills to Viper before two minutes. And the blown summoners on the FNC bot lane meant two more kills in a repeat gank from JieJie. Still, FNC did a great job of stopping the snowballing from the EDG bot side with their fed Azir in the mid lane. They even aced EDG in a 5v5 fight in the mid game. But the fight EDG won was more costly as they found four kills in a mid lane skirmish and secured a Baron. With the buff, EDG not only established a larger gold lead, but also took control of the map. While FNC did a good job of keeping EDG away from drakes and delaying the Soul, they gave up kills and health for it, leading to a second Baron for the LPL team. While the Baron siege wasn’t enough to end the game once again, it gave area control for EDG which was crucial when FNC took a disadvantaged fight for the drake. Despite Humanoid’s massive damage numbers, Viper was the carry that came out ahead and EDG gave FNC their first loss in the group.

  • Teams: EDG 1 – 0 FNC
  • Time: 36:35
  • Kills: 19 – 9
  • Turrets: 10 – 5
  • Gold: 68.6k – 59.2k
  • Dragons: 2 – 2
  • Barons: 2 – 0

Cloud9 vs T1 (Group A)

NA’s last opportunity to get a win on board for the day started out bad once again as T1 found the first blood with an early gank in the bot lane. On top of this a 25 cs lead at the top lane for Zeus and both early objectives for T1, C9 fell behind 2k gold before 12 minutes. T1 used the fact that C9 had to cover for their top laner to pull them around the map and got a big lead on towers destroyed. C9 was trying to make some plays to get back into the game, but it fired back as T1 answered masterfully and Gumayusi found himself a quadrakill in a play that felt like the game just ended. T1 was even able to get a Baron just as it spawned, and they killed four C9 members after it which led to three down inhibitors at 23 minutes. C9’s last ditch attempt at a pick on Oner went disastrous as Gumayusi almost got a pentakill, but he was denied by the minions ending the game and giving Faker a win in his 100th Worlds game.

  • Teams: C9 0 – 1 T1
  • Time: 24:55
  • Kills: 3 – 18
  • Turrets: 0 – 11
  • Gold: 36.7k – 53.8k
  • Dragons: 0 – 2
  • Barons: 0 – 1
