The Toronto Ultra are bringing a new face to the six for CDL 2023 season.
Toronto Ultra have been one of the most solid Call of Duty League teams in the past two seasons, keeping their Cold War roster for the entire of the Vanguard season too. However, some cracks started to show, and the emergence of an exceptional young talent in Scrappy gave the Toronto Ultra management a tough decision to make.
Ultra finished the Call of Duty League Championships in 2022 with a 5/6th place. Something well below what they would have targeted given their performances throughout the year. However, two of the original lineup stay, seeing Insight and CleanX rep the six for another year, while they’re joined by Scrappy and Standy to round out their 2023 roster.
Insight, CleanX, Scrappy & Standy – Ultra 2023
Heading into the 2023 Call of Duty League season, Toronto Ultra will field a starting roster of Jamie “Insight” Craven, Tobias “CleanX” Juul-Jonsson, Thomas “Scrappy” Ernst and Eli “Standy” Bentz. This team sees Insight and CleanX return once again, with CleanX now one of just four players to have played for the same Call of Duty League team since the inaugural 2020 season.
Scrappy has been dominating Challengers this year, and his loud personality has brought many eyes to his name. Toronto Ultra were smart, signing Scrappy to a substitute contract early, meaning if any other teams wanted him, they’d need to pay a buyout. Well, this wasn’t needed as he finds himself in the starting roster, joined by new recruit Standy. Standy comes from Minnesota ROKKR, and following a breakout year in 2021, he struggled to really get going in Vanguard. Despite no incredible performances throughout the season, Standy was consistent and calculated in his gameplay, earning him a move to the six.
The Call of Duty League is reportedly set to begin in November this year, so teams will need to start finalising their rosters soon as we get ever closer to the start of the season.
