The Wandering Village Coming to Steam on September 14

The Wandering Village is Stray Fawn’s new city-building simulation game. It is set to launch into Steam Early Access next week on Wednesday, September 14 for PC, Mac, and Linux.

What sets The Wandering Village apart from other games in the genre is that the city you build as a player is situated on the back of a giant, wandering creature called Onbu. The player will build their settlement and “form a symbiotic relationship with the colossus” as the game describes itself.

The game is inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s film Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and it combines “city-building and resource management with rogue-like and survival elements, players will need to forge a close relationship with the giant creature if they’re to endure the dangerous, post-apocalyptic world.”

Players must also maintain the health of the creature while balancing the needs of the villagers. This would include doing things such as farming crops, gathering rare resources, scouting the environment, and expanding the settlement.

Challenges in the form of detrimental weather, bloodsucking parasites, poisonous spores, and limited resources will come in players’ way as they try to manage their settlement on Onbu’s back. Players would also be required to journey through dangerous biomes and such and they would have to adapt to these changes to survive.

Another objective would be to create harmony between the villagers and the creature. “As a living creature, its unique body poses its own challenges for your village design. There’s every chance a spike may have grown where villagers intended to place their kitchen, while a failed harvest may cause desperation and tempt villagers to draw blood from the creature for food.”

The Wandering Village was three years in development and was successfully backed on Kickstarter. It got into the top 30 most-wishlisted games on Steam. It is going to release on Steam Early Access on September 14 for PC, Mac, and Linux at the price of $24.99 (≈₹2,000). The game will also make its way to Xbox Game Preview in 2023.
