The Marvels synopsis sheds light on why Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel appeared at the end of Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel Disney Plus series.
The first The Marvels synopsis provided new story details and explained why Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel needs to enlist the help of Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau.
Captain Marvel 2 is set to continue Carol Danvers’ story, but she will fight alongside Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau. The team-up was first teased by the Ms. Marvel post-credits scene directed by Nia DaCosta when Vellani’s Kamala Khan mysteriously disappeared from her room due to her bracelet, and Captain Marvel suddenly appeared in her place.
While no explanation was provided as to why Kamala’s bracelet sent her away or why Carol Danvers was transported to her room, The Marvels synopsis might offer insight into the events leading up to the switch. “Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe,” reads a translated version of the synopsis sent to Brazilian journalists through a Disney press site. “When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”
The mention of a Kree revolutionary will add credence to the rumors claiming Zawe Ashton’s The Marvels villain will be based on the comic book character Ael-Dan. In the comics, General Ael-Dan orchestrates the assassination of the Kree Emperor and rules the Kree Empire in his place. However, Ashton’s character is only said to be loosely based on Ael-Dan and is otherwise an original villain created for The Marvels. The synopsis also refers to Monica Rambeau as “estranged,” all but confirming Carol’s years-long absence drew a wedge between Monica and Carol that shattered the bond they once had when Monica was a kid.
The Marvels is scheduled to be released in theaters in the summer of 2023, so the official synopsis will likely be the only morsel of information given to fans until the new year. Still, considering The Marvels‘ release date has changed several times, fans are undoubtedly excited to learn more about the long-awaited sequel.
The Marvels is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 28, 2023.
