In Splatoon 3, part of character creation is choosing a race, eye color, hairstyle, and in naming the player character. That all games give players an option to redo these choices, but Splatoon 3 does for all character customization. This is even true for the character’s name.
Names are big in Splatoon, as they are often the first thing players notice in multiplayer. After seeing so many cool names in the game, a player may feel inspired to change theirs to something else. Luckily for them, changing the name that appears on the Splashtag is relatively easy.
How To Change Nickname
There is one prerequisite a player must accomplish before they can get to change their nickname. Before they can access a way to change their name, they must complete the Splatoon 3 tutorial. To do this means fighting in one Tuft Battle.
One the tutorial is complete, the nickname can be changed. To change the nickname, go first to the Battle Lobby. In the Battle Lobby, head to the screen next to the elevator and click on it. Clicking on it will take the player to a menu with options like Edit Splashtag, Get Stuff, Battle Logs, and such. The option to click on for name changing, though, is Change Nickname.
Things To Keep In Mind Before Changing Nickname
Nicknames can be up to 10 characters long. Certain words are prohibited, like words considered profane. Some players go through special efforts to get a profane word through in a nickname, though that is not recommended because they will be risking a ban if any other players report them. Anyone can report a player’s name by just examining the character in Splatsville.
When a nickname changes, so does the ID number. Also, Splatoon 3 does not let its players change their nicknames whenever they want on a whim. Once a nickname is switched then the player will have to wait 30 days before they can change their name again.
Remember that nicknames are just one element in a Splashtag. The tag can be customized through titles, banners, and badge collecting. Unlike names, banners, titles, and badges can be changed anytime. Between nicknames and all else that go into a Splashtag, there is a lot of room to personalize the player’s character.
