Overwatch 2 Achievements Are Sabotaging Xbox Players

[ad_1]

Overwatch 2 is suffering from a major bug on Xbox that kicks players out of the game whenever they earn an achievement. Overwatch 2 launched earlier this week, and the game has found itself the center of controversy for a number of reasons. There are those who are upset about Overwatch 2‘s monetization model, while others are simply frustrated with the ongoing technical problems. Blizzard has made strides in improving the Overwatch 2 experience for players compared to how it was a few days ago, but there are still fixes that need to be made.

Generally speaking, these Overwatch 2 technical problems are impacting players across all platforms. For the first couple of days after the Overwatch 2 launch, the biggest problem was the servers, resulting in long queue times and making it virtually impossible for most fans to get into the game at all. Blizzard has taken Overwatch 2 down for maintenance multiple times since the game’s rocky launch, and things seem to have stabilized quite a bit as a result. However, some of the game’s problems are platform-specific, like a bug that is sabotaging Xbox players whenever they earn an achievement in the game.

Numerous Overwatch 2 Xbox players are reporting an issue where earning an achievement in the game results in a disconnect, booting them back to the main screen. Game Rant successfully replicated this bug in our own testing. After getting kicked out of Overwatch 2 for earning an achievement, the game would not allow re-entry until resetting the alternate MAC address on the Xbox console.

For most Overwatch 2 game modes, this isn’t a huge deal. It’s frustrating for sure, but Overwatch 2 Quick Play and Arcade modes have relatively low stakes. Where this becomes a big problem is with Overwatch 2‘s Competitive mode. If one disconnects from an Overwatch 2 Competitive game and are unable to get back to it in time, they are hit with a ban for X number of minutes. Essentially, this means that Overwatch 2 players on Xbox are being punished for earning achievements.

Obviously, this will impact brand-new Overwatch 2 players on Xbox more than anyone else, as they will have more achievements to earn when compared to those that have been playing Overwatch since the original launched six years ago. And the good news for those battling it out in the Competitive mode is that new Overwatch 2 players can’t access Competitive until they’ve won 50 Quick Play matches. There are those who are frustrated by this restriction, but this is one benefit to it, at least until Blizzard sorts out the game’s achievement bug.

Overwatch 2 is out now in early access for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
