Overwatch 2: 5 Heroes Performing Poorly in the Current Meta

Who hasn’t lived up to expectations? We look at 5 heroes performing poorly in the current Overwatch 2 meta.

People who like Overwatch 2 have had the chance to play the game for around a month and a half now. Although we’ve seen several smaller changes, the heroes that became popular in the first couple of weeks continue to dominate the current meta.

In case you haven’t played Overwatch 2 yet, Blizzard’s newest game changed a lot of things. Tanks became much stronger than before, even though some lost their barriers. DPS are even harder to kill, whereas supports heal more and are more difficult to play. 

The Overwatch 2 changes affect every hero, and we’ve highlighted each one individually. Even though every Overwatch 2 hero can work in certain scenarios, some heroes are better than others when it comes down to competitive play.

Let’s go over a few heroes who aren’t looking good in the current Overwatch 2 meta — meaning you should go for other options.

Doomfirst

Everyone who has played Overwatch 2 so far knows that tanks feel much stronger than before. This applies to pretty much every tank, but there are some exceptions, such as Doomfirst. The latter was one of the top-tier DPS heroes, but Blizzard decided to change him and move him to the tank role. Although his skills look good on paper, he is not as good as heroes like D.Va and Roadhog.

Besides the fact that the hero does not do a lot of damage, he is also relatively easy to kill. Doomfirst does not have as much HP/Armor as other tanks, meaning he is a vulnerable target. He might be amusing to play, but all those things mentioned earlier mean that he is not the best option right now.

We are yet to see whether this will be the case in the future because Blizzard may make drastic changes to Doomfist. Who knows, the hero might become a lot stronger.

Junker Queen

Everyone who had access to the Overwatch 2 beta or played the game in the first couple of days after its release knows that Junker Queen was special. In fact, we think she was the strongest hero in the game and the most annoying tank. Her damage output was really impressive, and she was much harder to kill than a couple of other names.

However, the hero was too strong, which is why Blizzard decided to release the nerf hammer. A couple of weeks after Overwatch 2’s launch, the hero received tons of nerfs. Besides doing less damage, her Command Shout was nowhere near as effective as before. Unsurprisingly, this had a negative impact on other heroes as well, which is why Junker Queen was removed from the meta.

JQ’s low HP and armor is also a big con because she is not as tanky as other. To make matters worse, she has to be aggressive to survive, meaning her team’s supports has to get out of position. This may lead to easy kills. 

Mei

To be honest, Mei seemed like one of the more interesting heroes to play during the Overwatch 2 beta. The changes that Blizzard decided to implement made the hero more dangerous because they increased her damage. However, this came at a cost, which was her stun.

Even though Mei seems ok in the lower-rated ranked games, she isn’t that good among the higher ranks against the best Overwatch 2 players. Besides the fact that she has no CC, her Ice Wall is much weaker than before. This means that Mei’s utility s also not as good as before.

Of course, we also must mention that Mei is not a mobile hero. Despite the addition of the Overwatch 2 DPS passive, she continues to be one of the slowest heroes in the game. Needless to say, this is not good because she is an easy target.

Symmetra

While discussing DPS heroes in Overwatch 2 that are not as good as others, we must include Symmetra. The latter is okay in some scenarios because the new game buffed some of her primary abilities. However, Symmetra continues to be a situational pick that can only survive on some maps.

Besides her relatively low damage output, Symmetra has the same problem as Mei — the hero doesn’t do a lot of damage, and she lacks mobility. These two factors are crucial regarding the current Overwatch 2 meta, which is why Symmetra is not the best option to go for if you want to win most of your games.

That said, this hero has some advantages, such as her Teleporter. Even though this thing received a lot of nerfs, it continues to be one of the best abilities in the game, and it can help in numerous scenarios. That’s one of the reasons why Symmetra can work, but she is not that good in every situation.

Brigitte

The last pick we’d like to include on the list may surprise some of you. However, those who’ve played a lot of Overwatch 2 matches in the current meta know that this is not one of the best heroes right now. In fact, we consider her to be the worst support in the game, at least for now.

Brigitte’s healing is not that impressive, and the fact that she can survive longer than most supports is not that big of a plus. Speaking of surviving, the hero needs to be near the tanks to do that, which means she often tanks too much incoming damage. Needless to say, the Overwatch 2 changes that removed some of the effects of her abilities made the hero feel much weaker.

The heroes mentioned above are alright in general, but they do not fit well in the current meta. However, considering the fact that we are somewhere in the middle of season 1, we expect to see a lot of changes in the near future. So, make sure you keep an eye on the new patches because these heroes might become the go-to options in the next Overwatch 2 meta.
