Netflix is working on 55 new games including some games based on Netflix’s own IPs

Netflix launched its gaming section back in 2021 and as of now, they have 35 exclusive games on the app based on their hit movies and shows. Now according to the Q3 investor letter of Netflix, it has come to light that the company has 55 new games in development and some of them are based on franchises that are currently under work too. The company believes they are in the gaming scene for the long haul and introducing more games in 2022 seems to be its goal.

Netflix Games spent the first year understanding the demands of its subscribers

According to the letter that was released by Netflix, they have stated that they spent the first year trying to understand what the users want and establishing the right gaming infrastructure in their app.

They mentioned in the letter that they have seen “encouraging signs of gameplay leading to higher retention” even though it has been revealed before that around only 1 percent of Netflix’s user base interacts with their games on a daily basis.

With 55 more games in development, including more games based on Netflix IP, we’re focused in the next few years on creating hit games that will take our game initiative to the next level,” said the company in the letter.

Former Blizzard Vice President is involved in the upcoming 55 new games

Netflix has opened a development studio in South California for its expansion in the gaming space and will be led by Chako Sonny who is the former vice president of Blizzard. The company is reportedly developing original new games which means they are going to open and acquire new studios.

Though it is still unknown what games Sonny is currently working on, it is a safe guess to assume it’ll be something big and important for the company so that they can increase the usage of their gaming service within their subscribers as the number is very low given the fact that it is a free service that comes along with the normal subscription. So they will definitely be trying to up their game in this department if they want to stay in the space for the long run.
