LOL Patch 12.19 Notes: Syndra Mid-Scope Update, Off-Meta Build Changes


The complete change list for LOL patch 12.19 is finally out.


While pro-play will stay on the current 12.18 patch, the main portion of the player base will continue with the regularly scheduled patches. The 12.19 will come with a heavy focus on off-meta builds as it’s not constrained by the pro-play requirements.

Crit Garen, AP Rakan and more

When we talk about off-meta builds, it’s not like things that don’t make sense but builds that are already viable if not very optimal. Some of the examples are Garen getting some critical strike buffs when he already builds some with Mortal Reminder and Rakan who is getting AP buffs when he’s always loved AP items like Zhonya’s Hourglass. Of course, this doesn’t mean there aren’t any crazier changes. You can now try to go Blitz jungle or you can give Attack Speed Blitz top a chance in patch 12.19.

On a more serious note, we have some buffs to underperforming champions like Fizz and Ryze. Both of these champions are not seeing much play neither in high nor in lower elos. And both champions are only getting AP ratio buffs to their main abilities, which is always good, but not their main problem so not sure if these buffs will bring them into the meta.

Then there are the jungle nerfs to Master Yi and Rek’Sai, the only two nerfs in patch 12.19. Deservedly so as these champions have been really dominant in their ranks, Master Yi in lower and Rek’Sai in higher elos. Yi is getting some AD ratio nerfs to his Wuju Style (E), which makes it hard to itemize against him currently, and Rek’Sai is getting some base AD nerfs so her early game shouldn’t be as terrorizing as it is now.

Syndra mid-scope update

Finally, the Syndra mid-scope update is out. If you haven’t had the chance to try her out in PBE, the new Syndra doesn’t have different abilities but her ability upgrades are what changed. Before Syndra was getting an ability upgraded when she leveled her ability to max five points, now she will collect Splinters via poke or level ups. This is very similar to Viktor changes, who used to upgrade his abilities via gold and now does by minion and champion kills.

These kinds of changes usually tend to be healthier as they encourage players to interact with their opponents rather than look to farm. Plus, the breakpoints are the same so you will get a similar upgrade time for your main ability, Dark Sphere (Q), but it will be faster for other ones. This means Syndra will scale faster, and with the changes to her abilities, she will scale better.

When does LOL patch 12.19 go live?

Patch 12.18 will go live on October 5.

The first region that the patch will drop is the Oceania servers at 10 AM AEDT. The rest of the servers will follow suit in the morning hours of their respective regions. Here are the timings for most servers:

    • Updated Passive: Syndra collects up to 120 Splinters of Wrath via damaging enemy champions and gaining levels. Splinters of Wrath enhance Syndra and her abilities.
    • Mana from Splinters: Syndra restores 20-215 (based on levels 1-18) mana whenever she collects a Splinter from an enemy
    • Transcended: At 120 Splinters, Syndra gains 15% Total AP
    • Syndra can gain Splinters of Wrath from the following methods:
      • Damaging an enemy champion with 2 abilities within 4 seconds grants (1/2/3 at levels 1/11/18) Splinters (8 second cooldown per target)
      • Syndra will receive 5 Splinters of Wrath when she levels up
      • Killing a Cannon minion grants 1 Splinter of Wrath
    • [NEW] New Look: When Syndra fully upgrades an ability she will receive a new, upgraded ability icon
