League of Legends Patch 12.20 Preview


Here is a sneak peek of patch 12.20 changes that will go live next week as we move closer to preseason.


With the Preseason 2023 released on PBE, we are now officially coming to the end of Season 12. Still, the usual patch cycle continues with patch 12.20, albeit there aren’t too many changes to the champions. As always, Riot’s Summoner’s Rift design team lead, Matt ‘Phroxzon’ Leung-Harrison, shared the planned list of changes on his Twitter so the players could have a chance to see what’s new before the official patch notes.

The first change that catches the eye in these notes is the much anticipated Aatrox nerfs. The Darkin warrior has been terrorizing the top lane for many patches nowhe has the highest pick/ban percentage at Worlds 2022and had managed to dodge any nerfs so far. And while he is finally getting some nerfs, his damage will not be changed, so it looks like Aatrox will not fall out of the meta. Maokai is another dominant champion, both at Worlds and in Solo Queue, who will see some nerfs.

Other than that, many items will see some changes in patch 12.20. While underutilized items like Mortal Reminder and Sterak’s Gage will see some buffs with the hopes of making them more common, Frozen Heart will be nerfed. FH has been one of the most popular tank items in the game this season as the Rock Solid passive on it, combined with the Ability Haste the item gives, makes it a very desirable one.

When does LOL patch 12.20 go live?

Patch 12.20 will go live on October 19.

The first region that the patch will drop is the Oceania servers at 10 AM AEDT. The rest of the servers will follow suit in the morning hours of their respective regions. Here are the timings for most servers:

  • 3 AM PT (NA)
  • 5 AM GMT (EUW)
  • 3 AM CET (EUNE)
  • 8 AM KST (Korea)
