Is Tera A “Pay-To-Win” Game? Find Out Here

Bluehole Studio made TERA, which is an MMORPG. But like any other MMORPG, everyone wants to know if Tera is just another pay-to-win game.

TERA

TERA, which stands for “The Exiled Realm of Arborea,” is a free-to-play action-based MMORPG with many players (MMORPG). It came out on January 25, 2011, in Korea. North America and Europe got it in May 2012.

TERA became a free-to-play game at the beginning of 2013. It is a lot like other MMORPGs in a lot of ways. Players can do quests, gather materials, make items, explore dungeons, and fight each other in PVP combat.

The game is a type of MMORPG called a “theme park.” Players level up by doing tasks in an open world until they reach the level cap.

TERA gameplay

Players can choose from several different classes for their characters.  Also keeps the classic “Holy Trinity” class structure, which divides class roles into damage dealer (DPS), healer, and tank roles.

In the dungeons of TERA, each role is important to the group’s success. You can choose from seven different races and 12 different classes. Since the game came out, anyone of any race or gender can choose to be an Archer, Berserker, Lancer, Mystic, Priest, Sorcerer, Slayer, or Warrior.

Some newer classes, like Reaper, Gunner, Brawler, Ninja, and Valkyrie, only let people of a certain race or gender play them.

Each class is meant to be done both by yourself and with other people. When you team up, your character will be stronger because those of your teammates will complement your strengths.

Does TERA require you to pay to win?

The short answer is that you pay to skip the grind in TERA.

Spending has some good points since you can trade almost everything in the cash shop. You can trade premium currency for in-game gold from other players, which you can use to buy gear.

If things can be traded, on the other hand, you can play the game to get cosmetics, account goods, and even a subscription after you figure out how to make gold. In this game, spending money only helps if you change the cash shop value into gold. But the amount of gold needed to buy all of the strongest gear is currently in the millions. If you want some of the strongest gear in the game, you need to spend a lot of money.

This doesn’t put you in the top 1% of players or make you better, though, because the game requires skill and working with others. It is one of the only free-to-play games because you can play it to the end without spending any real money.

It has some problems, though, and you could pay to skip all the work if you wanted to.

How Many People Play Tera?

Since TERA first came out in 2011, more than 20 million player accounts have been made. However, only a tiny fraction of those still exist, with only about 50,000 PC and Console players playing every month.

 Is Dead?

No, TERA is not dead, but most players are on the PC European servers. On the PC North American servers, peak activity is lower, and there are more “quiet hours” during the day.

Is Going To End?

Bluehole, the company that made Tera, wanted to move on to other projects, so on April 20, 2022, Gameforge announced that Tera would be taken offline for the last time on June 30, 2022.

Can You Play On A Console?

Yes! Tera runs natively on the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The performance and stability of the 9th generation consoles are much better than those of the 8th generation.

Does Tera Support Play On More Than One Platform?

Even though all console versions of TERA support Crossplay, PC players can’t join this group because the content on PC is more than a year ahead of console versions.

I would love for this to change in the future because I think that allowing full crossplay would make the community healthier and more active and help TERA stay alive in a very competitive market.

How Much Does Playing Cost?

TERA is free to play, but you can pay to get more XP, double your daily rewards, a flying mount, and the ability to port/fast travel.

Players can buy and sell “TERA Club Membership Vouchers” for in-game money, just like in World of Warcraft and Eve Online.

Conclusion Pay2win?

Rich players can buy cosmetics that can be traded and sell them for a lot of gold, which they can then use to buy high-end gear. This isn’t how it was meant to work, especially since reaching an endgame gives you access to a constant stream of gold that can be used to buy both endgame gear and cosmetics.
