Is Dead By Daylight Crossplay In 2022?

Crossplay in Dead By Daylight should be a given. The intense multiplayer game blurs the line between competitive and cooperative play, forcing teams of survivors to work together to avoid scary monsters and killers. With so many different characters and ways to play, you’d want as many people as possible to be able to play together.

Even if that’s true, it doesn’t mean that players on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation will be able to play together. So let’s take a look at crossplay in Dead By Daylight! Does the scary hunting game help fans get along with each other? Let’s find out!

Dead By Daylight Supports Crossplay?

The answer is… kind of hard to explain. The situation is complicated because Dead By Daylight is sold in more than one place. The game can be performed on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and even Nintendo Switch. There is even a version for iOS and Android mobile devices.

But PC players have to decide if they want to buy Dead By Daylight through Steam or the Windows Store. And at first, these two groups of players couldn’t play together, even though they were using (more or less) the same hardware. The problem was fixed by developer Behaviour Interactive in late 2019, though.

The team made a limited version of Dead By Daylight cross-play for that platform, letting all PC players play together. After testing this feature, Behavior has added cross-play (Windows Store to Steam) and cross-friends to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. This means that all four platforms can now play with each other.

This doesn’t apply to the newer mobile version of the game, and there are no plans to add it. You can’t play with somebody on a console or PC if you’re on the phone. The good news is that iPhones and Android devices can at least play with each other. You can play with a friend as long as both are on mobile.

Cross-Progression Support for Dead by Daylight

Depending on which stage you play, you might be in for some more bad news. In Dead By Daylight, Behavior Interactive is adding cross-progress support, which will let you keep your progress on different platforms. Worse news? Cross progression won’t be available until September on Steam, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch.

Soon, you’ll be able to share your progress, purchases, and inventory across all three platforms, though Behavior warns that there may be some exceptions due to licensing. The developers don’t rule out cross-progression on other platforms, but they say they can’t make it happen now and will keep trying to make it happen.

To allow cross-progression, you’ll need to link your Behavior account on all three platforms. If there is an update and one console gets the patch later than the others, crossplay will be turned off until both consoles have the same version. Crossplay can be turned off by going to Settings > Disable Cross-Platform Play.

Why don’t Xbox and PS4 have cross-progression?

We consider it has something to perform with licensing on the Xbox and PlayStation storefronts. Sony and Microsoft are probably unwilling to give up all possible sales. Destiny 2 had the same issue. You could buy things like cosmetics and season passes inside the game, but you couldn’t purchase expansions from outside the game. Players who wanted to move forward on all three platforms had to buy the developments on all three.

Crossplay and Support for Multiple Platforms

in Dead By Daylight, Crossplay is becoming more and more popular as time goes on. Most likely, it won’t be unusual for long. Until then, though, it’s not fully included in the vast majority of cross-platform multiplayer games. When they do, only people on one console can play with people on PC most of the time.

Microsoft and Sony don’t seem to care much about the PC. With its “play anywhere” policy, Microsoft has an extra reason to make games. When you purchase a digital version of a Microsoft first-party exclusive game, you can usually play it on both Xbox and PC for no extra cost.

After that, there’s no reason to keep people from playing together. Services like Xbox Game Pass, which is also available on PC, make things even more accessible. In the past, Sony has almost always done the opposite. The company is by far the most excellent vendor of consoles in this generation.

That gives it a reason not to work well with other studios or let its partners do so on its hardware. Also, first-party games exclusive to Sony rarely come out on PC. It’s either PS4 or nothing. There are, however, a few third-party games that are only available on PlayStation and PC that can be played with other players.

Sony said its cross-play solution is no longer in beta and should be free. There are also rumors that PS4-only games like Horizon: Zero Dawn are coming to PC, which would break down even more walls that have kept the company from its competitors in the past.
