CSGO: ESL Won’t Host IEM China

[ad_1]

Pandemic woes have reared their head yet again, resulting in the cancellation of IEM China 2022.

Even though millions of CSGO fans were hoping to see one of the most interesting tournaments in China, it seems like this won’t be the case. According to the official information from ESL, the company won’t host the IEM tournament in China.

Why won’t ESL Host IEM China?

China is one of the big regions for any game, and CSGO is not an exception. ESL had to host the IEM this year, but the company decided to cancel the event due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Even though China was one of the first countries to “recover” from the pandemic in 2020, it seems like it is battling it yet again.

Before the COVID situation, ESL hosted the event regularly. In fact, the last version was IEM Beijing, which took place in 2019. There were many top-tier teams back then, but Astralis was better than the rest and won the trophy.

IEM China should’ve taken place this December, and it would’ve included some of the best teams in the world. However, ESL’s decisions mean that Asian fans won’t be able to watch the event in real time.

What’s next?

We are yet to see what will happen with this IEM because ESL hasn’t released any news yet. The Asian region is definitely overlooked in CSGO, but the problems with the pandemic do not allow the region to host some of the big events.

Speaking of tournaments, ESL’s profile on Twitter also announced that there would be changes to the EPL Conference Season 17. Although this event should have occurred between November 23 and November 27, the organizers decided to move it. Consequently, we will have the chance to watch it in 2023.

ESL moved the event because of the BLAST Premier Fall Final, which will be held during the days mentioned above. Needless to say, no one wants overlapping CSGO tournaments, which is why ESL made the right decision.
